Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced that the company is actively addressing issues with its Gemini AI tool, acknowledging concerns over biased and unacceptable text and image responses generated by the model. In a note to employees on Tuesday, Pichai highlighted the urgent need to rectify inaccuracies and biases identified within the tool’s output.
The decision to reassess and refine Gemini AI comes after Google temporarily halted the use of the tool last week due to discrepancies found in historical depictions created by it. Pichai emphasized that certain responses generated by the AI had offended users and displayed bias, prompting swift action from the company.
“Our teams have been working tirelessly to rectify these issues. We are already witnessing significant improvements across a wide range of prompts… We will thoroughly investigate the root cause of these problems and ensure comprehensive solutions are implemented,” Pichai stated.
Google aims to reintroduce Gemini AI in the coming weeks following thorough adjustments and enhancements. The news of the forthcoming relaunch was initially reported by the news website Semafor and later confirmed by a Google spokesperson.
Since the debut of Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT in November 2022, Google, under the umbrella of Alphabet Inc., has been striving to develop a competitive AI software. The company introduced the generative AI chatbot Bard a year ago, which has now been rebranded as Gemini. This month, Google unveiled paid subscription plans for Gemini, offering users enhanced reasoning capabilities from the AI model.
The ongoing efforts to refine Gemini AI underscore Google’s commitment to delivering high-quality and unbiased AI experiences to its users. With continuous refinement and vigilance, Google aims to ensure that Gemini AI fulfills its potential as a powerful and reliable tool for generating text and images.
