Biden’s Executive Order Sets Stricter Safety Standards for AI, Goes Beyond Industry Commitments

U.S. President Joe Biden is set to enact a comprehensive executive order aimed at enhancing the safety of artificial intelligence (AI) while safeguarding the interests of consumers, employees, and minority communities from potential risks associated with this technology.

This executive order represents the latest effort by the administration to establish guidelines for AI, which is rapidly advancing in its capabilities and popularity within an environment that has seen limited regulation thus far.

Previously, AI industry leaders like OpenAI, Alphabet, and Meta Platforms voluntarily pledged to watermark AI-generated content as a measure to enhance the safety of AI technology.

However, the forthcoming executive order, which President Biden will formally introduce during an event on Monday, takes more extensive measures compared to these previous commitments.
